Have You Been Singing the Blues at Work Yet?

(ARA) – Do you have problems sleeping on Sunday nights knowing that you have to return to work the next morning? Are you constantly daydreaming about your dream job? Are you always checking the clock at work, counting down the minutes until the day ends? If so, you might be suffering from workplace blues.
Don Thibert, director of academic affairs for Everest College, has decades of experience helping thousands of individuals a year move into progressive new careers. The seasoned career expert says it’s important to evaluate your work situation and offers great advice for finding career happiness.
“Most people are so desensitized by the daily grind that they don’t even realize they’re unhappy, let alone what to do about it. Given the recession, people are too busy just trying to keep their heads above water – they don’t have time to imagine the work situation that would make them really happy,” says Thibert.
To determine how blue you really are, Thibert suggests tracking your workplace blues for a month.
“Keep a daily record of what made you happy or unhappy each day and give yourself a score on a scale of one to 10, one being totally unbearable unhappiness and 10 being an absolute joy. By the end of the month you should be able to identify if you’re happy — specifically what you like and don’t like about your work,” says Thibert. “If your average score at the end of the month is six or lower, it’s time to start strategical methods for happiness.”
New evidence north of the border shows that Americans are not alone in experiencing workplace blues. A recent survey commissioned by Everest College found 59 percent of Canadians said 2009 was mediocre at best; one quarter called it either “a downer” or downright “depressing” and nearly three quarters said they suffer work-related blues at least occasionally.
“For some, it’s possible to find happiness in their current job,” explains Thibert. “But there are still many with a failing grade in the happiness department. In those situations, career training is a door opener to a more rewarding work life and greater overall satisfaction. Every day I see how it can really change your life and I encourage people to meet with counselors if they need some help to evaluate their career training options.”

How to Use the Web for Targeted Networking
June 15, 2010 by From-Home.net

(ARA) – When searching for a new career opportunity, the traditional method of “pounding the pavement” has gone virtual. Companies are posting employment opportunities on their Web sites, and are also utilizing social networking tools such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn to spread the message. To find the right job, use an integrated approach of social media, job search sites and targeted industry research.
Social networking sites act as an introductory service, providing people the opportunity to meet industry professionals through their own list of contacts. In this way, social and professional networking platforms make it easy for job-seekers to connect with former colleagues, while at the same time, granting them access to a person’s current position, previous employment and most importantly, their network of contacts.
“Using a site like LinkedIn, you can see the industry groups and professional associations that another user belongs to,” says Amber Kostik, career services adviser at The Art Institute of California – San Francisco. “You can look at a professional’s past experience, and that can give you an idea of what your dream company is looking for.”
Another tool is using job search Web sites like Monster or CareerBuilder, although it oftentimes proves more effective to specifically target companies you would like to work for. Individually targeting these companies helps define your career focus and allows you to customize your resume and cover letter to meet their company vision.
Job search Web sites can be a resource on many levels, including offering comparable job descriptions to ones that you have researched while targeting specific companies. This proves helpful in understanding what requirements and skill sets might be needed for a certain job. Another resource is recruiter listings, which include specific information about the company. When you come across a too-good-to-be-true listing but don’t meet all the listed qualifications, apply anyway. Recruiters list qualifications of their “ideal candidate,” but there is always room for negotiation if you can get your foot in the door. Also, look for niche positions, as these listings often receive fewer applicants, meaning you are more likely to be seen.
“These Web-focused tactics are key aspects when looking for job opportunities. To be successful in finding work you must tie them all together” says Nathan Small, career services advisor at The Art Institute of California – Hollywood. “When identifying your strengths and looking for work, you must take it one step at a time but continue to hold onto things that motivate you to achieve your goals.”
By using this combination of social media, job search sites and targeted industry research, your network can grow exponentially. This offers many more ways to not only locate specific job opportunities, but also provides you with direct connections to people that you can reach out to for personal recommendations, additional information, and insight into specific opportunities. Using these tools can improve your job search, and your feet will thank you, too. To learn more about The Art Institutes schools, visit www.artinstitutes.edu/nz.

An Opportunity to Home Business
April 17, 2010 by From-Home.net
Filed under Opportunities, Work From Home
Opportunity has a strange way of presenting itself. While you may heavily be in search for the ‘right’ business opportunity, it will silently stand there, waiting to be found. It will not knock on your door or simply just pat on your back to grab your attention.
It will stand there; disguising itself, while waiting for you to recognize it and lift the veil from its face. It demands action from you, yet it won’t give the slightest hint of its existence. Now why is this?
A man who seeks opportunity will eventually find one. When, how and where entirely depends on the sharpness of the one seeking. Opportunities are already there. If we are not conscious of it’s being, we will not be aware of ever seeing one, however nly when we begin to become conscious of the reality, will we then begin to find them ( or even just one).
Recently a friend of mine critically asked me “If home business on the net can bring so much wealth and freedom to oneself how come everybody is not sitting at home, in front of a computer, earning and increasing in wealthâ€.
He was trying to negate that money can be earned by owning an online business. I tried my best to explain to him about earning online, but he was not ready to accept the reason.
“I think that is a huge waste of time.†He basically was rejecting my idea of earning while successfully running an online home business.
He was not conscious of the fact and he could not be subjected to reason.
“Well! Then home business is not for me”. His prerogative I guess.
First step to find a home business opportunity is to believe that it ‘exists’. One must accept that it is there. Then one must become aware of home business money earning potential.
When you become conscious of something you start noticing things that you have never picked up on before. The way things work will become more comprehensible. That is law of nature.
Nature has designed things in this fashion to avoid the revelation to the unpreparedness and thus unworthiness.
The opportunity can only be used by ableness. One who can recognize the opportunity and acts to tap it is an able man. Other forms will not find the chance or let it pass without utilizing it.
Home business on the net has produced millionaires. Countless people started with limited resources and now earn unlimited wealth. What did they do?
They recognized an opportunity and took action. They had eyes for the opportunity and audacity for taking an action. That is what makes them stand apart in addition to the wealth they have made.
They were able an willing.
Taking an action is second step for tapping the opportunity. Action taking is must if you want to get yields from opportunity. Otherwise the opportunity is as good as no opportunity.
Opportunity for home based business would always remain. With internet expanding at such a fast pace, potential of home business is much more than ever.
But only those whom seek with conviction and vision will find one.
Moreover, only those who are courageous enough to take action would find their way to enormous wealth.
People who lack conviction, courage or both will not find any wealth in the home business or for that matter any success.

Complete Checklist for Starting Your Own Business
April 17, 2010 by From-Home.net
Filed under Finance/Investing, Work From Home
Use this comprehensive checklist to plan each step of your new business and transform your dream of entrepreneurship into reality. These steps may not necessarily be completed in the order listed; however, you can use them as a guideline for completing all of the necessary business startup tasks.
- Determine what kind of business you want to start.
- Learn about the industry for your business.
- Analyze the market for your business.
- Study your competition.
- Educate yourself on running a business.
- Join trade associations.
- Name your business.
- Perform a trademark search.
- Register a domain name.
- Design a website.
- Obtain a logo.
- Determine business structure (sole proprietor, partnership, or corporation).
- Evaluate your personal budget.
- Write a business plan.
- Write a marketing plan.
- Locate financing.
- Create a list of start-up supplies with budget.
- Set up a system for accounting and payroll.
- Apply for business license, fed tax ID, fictitious business name.
- Select a location and set up shop.
- Order signage.
- Obtain business tools (computer, printer, fax, postage, office supplies, and fixtures).
- Order business stationery (business cards, letterhead, brochures).
- Obtain inventory.
- Create an operations and employee manual.
- Hire employees.
- Set a launch date.
- Plan a grand opening event.
- Send announcements to everyone you know.
- Send press releases.
- Turn on the OPEN sign!
- Revisit your business plan and update often.
- Evaluate your marketing strategy often.
- Prepare a realistic business plan.
Think of this as your business road map. Define exactly where you want to get to with your business and then you can effectively map out your path towards achieving your goals!
By creating a detailed business plan you should cover all options and eventualities and have a clear future vision that will guide you through the rest of the start-up processes.
Your business plan should encompass the financial considerations of starting your small or home based business:-
Do you have the capital required?
Do you need to raise additional funds?
Who are you going to approach for finance?
Who do you trust for advice?
And don’t forget to open a business bank account…
Consider the legal implications of becoming a business owner and sole proprietor.
Are you better off as a sole trader, a limited company or are you considering a partnership?
Make sure you consider all the angles and protect yourself and your assets personally from the outset.
Anything you bring to the business has to be itemized, valued…even if you’re a sole trader.
And make sure you are professionally covered with the appropriate business indemnity insurances.
Get your family and friends behind you from the get-go.
Make sure your family and friends are fully understanding and supportive of your ideas to venture into small business start-up.
Do they understand the level of commitment you will have to show for on-going and long term success?
Their belief in you and continued support of you will work wonders towards your on-going success, so don’t forget to look out for them too.
Protect your family, protect your business.
If, God forbid, something were to happen to your health, how would your business survive, how would your family cope?
Consider insurances – from health, critical illness and income protection insurance to life insurance – and consider your pension and long term financial security.
Face those ‘taxing’ questions from the start.
Your small or home based business has to consider its taxation situation.
Do you need to register your business for sales tax purposes; have you informed your tax office of your business’s inauguration?
Do you have a good tax professional lined up to guide and assist you?
The bottom line when it comes to taxation is that from the outset you need to make sure your papers and books are in order, this will save you time, money and heart ache in the long run.
Prepare realistic and achievable goals and targets for your first year.
Do not expect to conquer the world with your first year’s business returns.
Starting a business is a life changing undertaking and one you must be patient with. The rewards are there, but make sure you set yourself achievable targets – when you reach them they will give you the confidence and satisfaction to set new goals and to continue building your business’ success.

What is a Blog? What is Blogging?
April 16, 2010 by From-Home.net
Blogs like all forms of writing are an art form that takes knowledge and practice to do well.
Writing…Blogs…Blogs are on-line journals where people express themselves through writing. Writing…Writing is the process where one puts down words of a language on a format that others can read. This process has not been around very long, to use one of my writing teacher’s favorite sayings, “Writing has only existed for one day in the one year that humanity has existed.†Speaking and thinking come much easier than writing. These processes just flow out naturally like a river of consciousness; sometimes we hardly have to think about doing them. Anyone and everyone can write words down on paper but that doesn’t mean it’s ‘good writing’, myself included. Like most things in life, our society already takes writing for granted which is proving to expose more of our ignorance. Writing is a new form of expression, and if we want to do it in a way that the masses can connect with our ideas, we have to think much more simply and clearly about this art.
Now that was quite a big paragraph, you’ve got to wonder if I really needed to say as much as I just did to introduce this article on the best way to write your blogs on the Web. I didn’t even mention this main idea, and that’s what an introduction paragraph is meant to be for. This is a common mistake in many blogs out there. We try to get too many ideas across in one paragraph, sometimes even in one sentence! The key, as in all things in life-is to keep it simple. Simplicity means that readers won’t get confused about what your journal entry is actually about. Introduce your main general topic at the start, and use the subsequent paragraphs to discuss separate ideas that relate to this topic. Try to tie everything up in the concluding paragraph, your main argument and the reason why you’ve written in the first place.
Grammar and sentence construction are not easy systems to master, especially if you come from a school system that spent more time telling you about historical battles and quadratic equations than on how to read and write. This is a real problem. When we speak we can get messages across to others easily, but if we put these words down on paper, the writing just isn’t interesting and doesn’t connect with people’s curiosities and fascination. When you write you are not talking to a close friend. You can’t use slang and colloquialisms that only your local community can understand. The aim is to connect with all the people in the world, so let’s make it crystal clear and enjoyable to read.
Your computer has spelling and grammar checks, as well as access to a thesaurus. Use them, but remember that the machine can’t decipher all the intricacies of language. Language is a world in itself, and much of its territories are undiscovered by the masses. So, again keep it simple. Short, precise sentences with single ideas are great. Many words in the English language have the same meanings (synonyms). Use the thesaurus so you don’t repeat the same word over and over throughout the text. It keeps the story fresh and doesn’t turn the reader off. There’s nothing more boring than repetition. Using different words can be a lot of fun and a learning experience, just make sure you use a dictionary (also on the computer/Internet) to make absolute sure of the word’s definition.
Readability…Simplicity…Make your blog accessible by all people. You can even take into consideration that many readers will have learned English as a second language. As I’ve said in previous articles, keep to the point-don’t go on tangents. Stick with the article’s topic, and definitely stay within the realms of your blog’s main area. If your blog is entitled “Jazz musicâ€, people who go there don’t want to hear about how your football team won on the weekend! Please be consistent. How irritating is it to visit a blog that hasn’t been written on in months or years?
I hope these little tips will help you on your quest to producing ‘good’ writing that brings new friends and acquaintances of similar outlooks into your world. If you want people to read, the aim is to produce an emotional reaction in your reader. Pretend you are writing to another form of yourself, if it were not readable, interesting and fun…would you stick around?

Overview: What is a blog?
A blog is a type of Website driven by regular entries of commentary (posts), which are maintained by either an individual or a group of authors. Blogging software is typically easy to administer, employing a rich-text editor for posting entries and pictures, and is recommended for beginners to expert Web users.
Posts are typically displayed in reverse-chronological order, and allow for reader comments that facilitate discussion on the topic at hand. Some blogs focus on providing information on a particular subject, whereas others serve as an ongoing online journal or diary. A typical blog includes text, images, links to other blogs (a blogroll), Web pages and other media (podcasts, videos, etc.) related to its topic. Additional functionality, often identified as “plug-ins” or “mods,” can be added through the specific application’s Website.
Work From Home Online Business Opportunities-Advantage And Disadvantages
April 16, 2010 by From-Home.net
Filed under Opportunities, Work From Home
People often ask me how I make money online working from home. When I tell them, the response is usually, COOL I WISH I WERE DOING THAT! But there are some minor disadvantages of having a work from home internet job.
My number 1 disadvantage of working from home on the internet is interruptions by family members while I’m trying to do something productive. Sure there are always interruptions at the office but my work from home internet business resides in my kitchen. There are ways to get around this if you have a spare room that you can use to set up shop in. I do not unfortunately.
Number 2 is just plain laziness and procrastination. As my own boss it’s easy to put off work from home business in exchange for a nice quiet day in front of the TV watching the discovery channel. It’s rally hard to get motivated sometimes. Especially when everyone has left the house and you are all alone.
Number 3 is finding a good balance between family time work from home business time and my full time job. Yes I still have a full time job. One of the reasons I started a work from home business is so I would have more leisure time with friends and family. But until I am making enough to quit my full time job, it does not look like that will happen.
Number 4 is security and not knowing how much money your work from home business is going to make from month to month. Also waiting for checks to show up in the mail that are a few days behind when you need to pay a bill or the mortgage can be an inconvenience. When you are working for someone else for a set amount of hours and a set hourly rate you know exactly what your income will be.
As for the advantages, well I think the advantages far out weigh the disadvantages.
My number 1 work from home advantage is the ability to work whenever I want anywhere I want. With a lap top computer I can pretty much do business anywhere
In the world. No matter were I am, on vacation or on a business trip or whatever. The internet and today’s technology makes a work from home internet business my business of choice.
My number 2 work from home advantage is not having to commute to work every morning. We have all hard the phrases rat race, no commute required and work from home in your pajamas. I have actually worked in my pajamas on the internet with a hot cup of coffee. Knowing that you do not have to get up at 6:00 am to go to work in the morning is a beautiful feeling.
My number 3 work from home advantage is not having a boss to tell me what to do all the time. The only boss I have is my consciousness that tells me to get up off the couch and go write an article on my computer or look for places to submit my web site URL to.
And finally my number 4 work from home internet business advantage is the income potential. Basically the income potential for a work from home internet business is endless. It all depends on how hard you want to work and how much time you want to devote to your work from home internet business. And with the amount of people joining the internet community every year, the future is bright.

Mesothelioma: Causes ,Symptoms & Diagnosis
April 16, 2010 by From-Home.net
Mesothelioma is a rare type of cancer that typically affects the lining of the lungs, heart and abdomen. Approximately 2,000 to 3,000 cases of mesothelioma are diagnosed each year in the United States, comprising around 3 percent of all cancer diagnoses. This cancer occurs about four times more frequently in men than in women and all forms of mesothelioma, except for benign mesothelioma, are invariably fatal.
The life expectancy for mesothelioma patients is generally reported as less than one year following diagnosis, however a patient’s prognosis is affected by numerous factors including how early the cancer is diagnosed and how aggressively it is treated.
In an effort to help patients understand mesothelioma, Asbestos.com offers a complimentary packet that contains treatment information tailored to your specific diagnosis. The packet also covers the nation’s top mesothelioma doctors and cancer centers, as well as financial assistance options to help cover medical costs. To receive your packet in the mail, please enter your information below…
Mesothelioma is caused by asbestos exposure which occurs when fibers are inhaled or ingested into the body and become lodged in body cavities, causing inflammation or infection. Asbestos is a naturally-occurring fibrous substance that was widely used in the 20th century in a number of different industries. When the public became aware of the hazards associated with the mineral, warnings were issued in the mid-1970s and use of the product began to decline.
More than 30 percent of those diagnosed with mesothelioma are veterans. Please visit the page on asbestos for additional information about the mineral.
Mesothelioma Types
There are five known types of mesothelioma. The four listed below are malignant cancers, and benign mesothelioma is a non-cancerous condition.
Pleural Mesothelioma: This type of mesothelioma develops in the lining of the lungs, known as the pleura. It is the most common form of malignant mesothelioma, with around 75 percent of cases being pleural in origin.
Peritoneal Mesothelioma: Comprising approximately 20 percent of mesothelioma cases, this form of mesothelioma develops in the lining of the abdominal cavity, known as the peritoneal membrane.
Pericardial Mesothelioma: This form of mesothelioma develops in the lining of the heart, known as the pericardium. Approximately 5 percent of all mesothelioma cases are pericardial.
Testicular Mesothelioma: Testicular mesothelioma develops in the tunica vaginalis of the testicles and is the rarest form of the cancer.
Mesothelioma Symptoms
Symptoms of mesothelioma often do not appear for 20 to 50 years after initial exposure to asbestos occurred. Mesothelioma symptoms often resemble less-serious conditions, which can make a diagnosis of mesothelioma difficult. Below is a list of several common symptoms mesothelioma patients may experience.
Pleural Symptoms: Shortness of breath, chest pain, persistent cough, fatigue, lumps under the skin on the chest
Peritoneal Symptoms: Weight loss, abdominal pain and swelling, bowel obstruction, nausea
Pericardial Symptoms: Heart palpitations, irregular heartbeat, chest pain, difficulty breathing, night sweats
Testicular Symptoms: Painful or painless testicular lumps
Mesothelioma Diagnosis
The process of mesothelioma diagnosis usually begins with a review of a patient’s medical history followed by a physical examination.
If a problem is suspected, a doctor may request several diagnostic tests. These typically include medical imaging scans such as:
- X-rays
- CT scans
- PET scans
- MRI scans
A combination of these tests is often used to determine the location, size and type of the cancer. Biopsy procedures are often requested following an imaging scan to test samples of fluid and tissue for the presence of cancerous cells.
